Hey all, I recently got a 9 speed cassette for my bike (HG-900, the 11-32 version). Before I bought I measured the freehub to be about ~35mm long, which from my previous research meant it was compatible with 8/9/10 speed cassettes. I can’t get the last cog in the cassette to seat properly no matter what I do. I don’t think there’s any spacers on my freehub, so I’m not sure why it isn’t fitting. I don’t see any extra spacers in the cassette itself, since gears 1-7 are riveted together.
attached is a video of me putting on the cassette. Sorry it’s kind of shaky and awkward, I’m only using one hand. Thanks for any help, I’ve been trying to put this on for hours now.
EDIT: I think this hub is actually a 7 speed hub after measuring the splines from the base of the hub, it's about 30mm, which isn't as long as the 8/9/10 hub. I wasn't measuring it correctly before.

Get it in place and scrunch it down with the lock ring.
Hmm my 9 speed knowledge is rusty but pretty sure you need a spacer. ( sold separately) 😉
Edit ; hopefully others can confirm but pretty sure you need 1.85 or 2mm spacer
Where’d you get the cassette? You got 2 end cogs there. Only the last cog should have the little grooves on it because the lockring stays tight by gripping onto them.
EDIT: [Here](https://si.shimano.com/en/pdfs/ev/CS-HG400-9-3680/EV-CS-HG400-9-3680A.pdf) is the exploded diagram. You’re missing the second-to-last cog. This looks a little dirty. Did you buy it used? The seller must’ve gotten parts mixed in from another cassette.
Something wrong with the last cogs. Is this cassette new ? second hand ?
What is the make, model, and model year of your bike, and more importantly, what is the exact make and model of your wheel?
Reason why I’m asking: are you sure that isn’t a 7 speed freehub?
I think you have a 7 speed hub. If it could fit a 9 speed it would also require a spacer behind the casette, and there’s not even enough space for the final gear.
I have had this issue. Perhaps you could take one cog out (not the lovking one) and use it as an 8 speed on the 7 speed hub?
good thing you checked with your local bikeshop and not reddit
