Ah I love the Pacific Northwest! If you’re ever in Portland there’s a couple of must ride springtime routes, my favorite is the waterfront loop, but springwater rocks too.

Waterfront is my favorite because you go from in the city to feeling a million miles from a big city and back (and I live a few blocks from a stretch of it so I ride it a lot).

  2. I know it well! Commuted there for years. I’m down in Olympia now, but I ring my bell at you, friend. Enjoy that new-ish route across 520! I used to ride around the north end of the lake to get to Bellevue from Pinehurst for a bit.

Personally I’m a big fan of the stretch of Pennsylvania Ave between the Capitol building and White House in DC where the bike lanes go down the middle of the road.

That is a great stretch. I walked it the last time I was there.

The bike paths in Perth, Australia are amazing, right next to the bay and no vehicle interactions.

  6. The Burke is a jewel!

This stretch, however, is not my favorite.. Too many uncontrolled car crossings and mixed mode traffic on the trail between Gasworks and UW. The view into downtown over Lake Union at sunset is peak Seattle, I’ll admit.

But I’m a “Dexter instead of Westlake” kind of cyclist, so ymmv.

  7. I gotta visit one of these days. My favorite urban stretches in the US are Chicago lake front trail or the Hudson greenway in NYC

  8. Not gonna fault you, but California has a staggering amount of waterfront or beachfront bicycle infrastructure. You can almost bike off street from San Jose all the way to San Francisco. There’s a few stretches in south San Mateo County and a bit in north Santa Clara County, but they are quiet surface streets.

And that doesn’t count Socal where you can bike all up and down LA and Orange counties along the beach, as wl as there being trails all along the LA River.
