Hello all
I’m a very new bike packer, having done one wimp’s trip last summer (drive to Dover, cycled onto the ferry, then off at Calais – down to Ypres and stayed in a hotel, then Ypres-Roubaix-Ypres, another night in a hotel and then Ypres – Dunkirk, ferry – home). I’d like to do it a bit more properly. I have frame bags, saddle bag, front bag, etc already from last summer. However I would also like to add in camping equipment, as I adore camping and fancy combining wild camping and cycle touring to make affordable, interesting trips possible! However I am finding the choices baffling and the prices out of my league! 🤣 I’m currently considering a second hand Alpkit Elan hopped bivvy, but wondered if anyone had any recommendations about alternative small bike packing tents, sleeping bags and sleeping mats that would fit in the setup I have (ideally!). Budget bargains particularly appreciated (sadly!).
Thanks in advance for any mentorship anyone might wish to offer a clueless beginner!

It looks Peak-Bug!!! (Our loaded bikes are bugs)

I’d look at the selection of new/used/tried-and-true “backpacking” selection of equipment: if you’re going for a smaller set up, these two hobbies have a lot of cross over.

Personally, I like using a 3^2m tarp, as a tent: but it’s only single walled, good to pair with a bivy, light and actually quite versatile. I also use an inflating sleeping pad, a a foam pad if it’s cold/preference, and a “mummy” shaped bag, with some bells/whistles.

What are you going to eat?
