I got this Colnago Master Olympic with Campagnolo Record from my dad.

I already did some rides and I could keep easily up with my friends on modern carbon bikes.

But i had already 2 flat tires with the tiny 23mm tires and the bike will not let me shift in the largest(easiest) gear on the back, so it gets hard at steep hills.

What is the maximum tire size I can fit on this bike?

What can I do to make it working even better or is there any upgrade I could do?

  1. I would guess maybe 25s depending on clearance at the fork.

Have you had it tuned up or attempted it on your own? It’s a very manageable maintenance task to learn. Should help with the shifting

If you want to go racing with your friends, get better, do amazing rides … just buy a newer bike.
This is an oldtimer, and as it belonged to your father, you should cherish it, take it for easy spins with your friends, preferably with an inbetween drink or two.

  3. Only upgrades I’d even consider are new tires, saddle, bartape. Can’t tell max tire size just looking but 25mm is a a safe assumption on a bike this old. Otherwise she seems like a beauty, with the brifters I wouldn’t really even be worried about a new road bike unless you wanted to start racing… It’ll be plenty fast!
