This is part of the old “Kettle Valley Railway (now converted to gravel cycling path) throughout the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. There is hundreds of kilometres to explore. Highly recommend it.

The section that you are mentioning as closed or unimproved are near Princeton. The KVR from Kelowna through Penticton are open and beautiful.
