  1. No heat or anything; just go for it, carefully. Low fatigue rate is one of steel’s main benefits.

  2. Good pair of smooth jaw channel locks would make easy work of it. Crescent wrench would work too

    Find a bolt and a nut, that just fit inside screwed together. Then slowly unscrew the nut and spread the dropouts apart. Shim them, if you want to protect the paint, but this shouldn’t be a big concern inside the dropout.
