I went to go for my first ride since cleaning my bike before going on holiday and the front break is making this screeching noise. It also isn’t applying force properly.
The disc looks to be spinning correctly within the pads, but I have never worked on disc breaks before.
I will likely take to a shop.
These are grx 600 parts.
Front disc brake sounds like brass orchestra

They all do
Likely contaminated disc and pads. Ride it to the bike shop, and brake a bit more to warm it up/try to take off whatever is on them. If it still doesn’t improve, it’s new pads time and clean disc time
Wheel is not spinning freely but instead gets stuck. Looks to me as if one brake pad has immediate contact with the rotor.
Flip the bike again. Loose the two screws of the brake caliper with an allen key. Pull the brake lever and tighten the caliper screws again while keeping the lever pulled. Should so the trick.
Contaminated brake pads most probably. You most probably have to change them. You can try to salvage them by submerging them in hot water. Then you let them dry completely before installation.
But please don’t apply the brakes when the bike is upside down.
My newly bedded in xtr’s with metal pads sounds like this. Good braking power though.
There’s some sort of contaminaion, you might be able to clean the pad, I have had some luck with acetone but it’s horrible stuff.
Also as a former brass player, that sounds like a string group.
That really cracked me up! 😂
Probably a combination of contaminated brake pads and sticky pistons. Or a bent rotor.
Ok, just buy a New disc or the right too to straighten it.
that hit me unexpected hard 😂😂
That sounds more like a cello. Or violin.
Take the pads out, sand them a bit and clean them with brake cleaner. Reinstall & ride down a few steep hills. If they squeak a little when hand spinning the wheel its fine. Sometimes brakes just squeak a little bit at super slow speed.
I take issue with the brass orchestra. I’d blame the oboe personally.
Jokes aside the other folks have it. It’s contaminated. IMO if I can’t get them cleaned after one or two goes I’ll replace the pads and rotors
After a german tour the france commentator they must seak because then you know they are working🤣
