I’ve been attempting to get my tubes setup tubeless and the first time – the wheels just would not seal punctures but the tape held up somehow, after the winter, I now ripped the old tape off and used the Milkit conversion kit to re-do; 2 attempts and the whole bottle of sealant used/wasted and it never tends to hold pressure!

The tires have no leaks but the air flows out of the small hole on the DT Swiss rims telling me that the tape isn’t on well! The leak is gradual – I can squeeze out a 30 min ride and left overnight – the air drops to non-rideable pressures

How to get beyond this? I’d love to run the setup tubeless and I’m already 50€+ down!

Tubeless tape should be 2 mm wider than the internal rim width (eg 23mm tape in a 21mm rim for an overlap that’s secured by the tyres beads) and applied with tension. Start 2,5 spoke holes before the valve hole, wrap atleast a full Revolution with an overlap at the valve hole and finish 2,5 spoke holes after the valve hole. The last few cm should be applied without tension to prevent peeling. Make sure the rim is clean, grease and dust free before applying the tape. I usually clean it with ipa (isopropyl alcohol) on a non flaking kitchen towel.
