The tour de France is coming to Wales in 2027. Wales is a different breed of cyclists
Stone henge is in Wiltshire, Salisbury plains , and the royal Chilterns are in the south east
I'm based in York and do a lot of road cycling. Close to York its all relatively flat but if you head 10 miles north you come to the Howardian Hills and then a few miles further on, the North Yorkshire Moors. The hills tend to be short and steep including quite a few upto 20% with Rosedale Chimney topping out at 33%. The moors can be pretty grim if the weather isn't good. I rekon you could do a 100k or so road ride from York and take in Byland Abbey, the White Horse climb(couple of 25% sections), Riveaulx Abbey, Helmsley and a few nice villages like Hovingham, Gilling and Ampleforth. It would probably be around 3-4000 feet total and some nice views and scenery.
The Marcher way probably follows the same/similar route as the Offa's Dyke hiking route which formed the boarder between England and Wales during the Early Medieval period.
I've walked the Offa's dyke (10 day through hike). It's beautiful countryside and passes through some ancient towns with the classic medieval architecture , town squares , walls and castles that Americans go crazy over. I would recommend the route but with a warning that there are some brutal climbs.
Calder is in The Pennines in the North of England

King Alfreds Way is southern England combining The Ridgeway and The South Downs.
