Morning everyone. I maintain my own bikes but have never dealt with press fit bottom brackets before. I have some play in my crankset when tightened correctly. Removing the shielding thingy from the BB shows play in the centre bushing(?). Does this need replacing or has someone got some wizardry that will get the bike back on the road till I replace it? Thank you

Can this be repaired or does it just need replacing?

How does the bearing feel when you turn it with your finger? Press fit bottom brackets aren’t hard to change, you just need the right tool to remove and press them in.

  2. The side with play feels slightly more grindy and gritty than the other side but it wasn’t super noticeable when riding, until the lateral play started.
They aren’t exactly expensive so I will replace, I don’t have bearing presses however and the bike is a decent off brand so I don’t know how tight the fram tolerances are.

It need replacing, if your not confident or don’t have the correct tooling take it to your local independent bike shop, ask them to replace it but also ask how they do it and what tooling is required, that way if you want to attempt it in the future you’ll have a good idea and also be able to search for the correct tutorial online

    It’s done.

Check the référence on the other side (nead to clean to read).

Then you you can Order the new pressfit (25€) + the tool extractor (15€) + grease for new mounting (5-10€).
    (A mallet Will be necessary).

At this point you already done the most complicated part.

Feel free to ask for help.
