TL;DR – 2018 Giant Trance Advanced 1 for $900 worth it?

Shopping on a budget, I've been riding on the road on an old Trek 4300 for the last 20 years, and want to get something start hitting trails. I was originally thinking hard tail, but am open to options. Trying to stick around $1000 – $1500, and this bike is listed locally to me. He says he thinks it's a 2017, but is going to call the shop tomorrow to verify. But from my searching I think this is a 2018, doesn't seem like they made it in 2017.

From Giants website, it looks like it went for $5k originally. I'm just wondering it's still worth that for an 8-9 year old bike? Is it not worth it because it might be hard to spot cracks in the main frame? But the bike shop he bought it from (I've purchased from them before too) is right in town, maybe he'd even let me take it to them for an inspection. Not sure.

I'm not specifically shopping for Giant, or even FS. But this seemed to be well above other things I've seen in my price range and was curious yalls opinions.

I have read good things about the Polygon Siskiu and could get a near new T7 in my price range. Any thoughts about this Giant?

Edit: Damn can't edit the post title lol.

  1. Use 99 spokes website to look up year and spec, use bicycle blue book to find a fair price

Everything looks to be in decent condition, I’m sure the shop would check it over for you. 900 doesn’t seem like a bad deal to me if everything is good (suspension, dropper, and brakes).

Carbon frame? Double check to make sure there’s no hairline cracks. Superb deal for 900 usd I’m assuming. That’s about 1230cad ( I’m from BC )

I have the 2019 version (Geometry is probably the same) and really liked it, but have since replaced it with a Shadowcat. $900 is hard to beat for a well maintained bike, but if it is 2018 then that’s 8 years ago. $750-$900 is my range guess. OE brakes suck though, SRAM Guide RS are mushy and blah. Useable if you don’t have the budget to upgrade, I used them for two years before the Shimano XT replaced them. DPX2 is solid. My wheels came with carbon fiber rims. Great trail bike.
