Hey all. Was having some poor shifting with my ultegra DI2 front derailleur on moving from small ring to big ring. Loosened the pinch bolt and repositioned the front derailleur and went to tighten it to 6nm (with a torque wrench) and the mount cracked.

Is there anything that can be done? Frame replacement through the crash program is $700. Any ideas, not a round tube to use a clamp on hanger.

Thanks!

  1. Isn’t that part detachable? It’s on my bike at least
(different model). Take off the derailleur (the screw where it’s broken), and hidden behind should be a screw where this part is mounted to the frame.

As this is not a structural part I would consider trying to repair it with epoxy and CF. Start with some googling.

Might prevent adjustment to the lower part of the hanger but should be ok.

For some bike models the derailer mount is made of carbon and an integral part of the carbon frame. Yours so to see too.

What you can do is talk to a carbon repair company maybe they can fix this. They can maybe layup some extra carbon with changing the position of the derailer too much, there is some leeway.

Another option is to have made 1 or 2 thin curved metal plates that can be bonded/glued over the carbon and reinforce it.

Last and expensive resort would be removing the carbon mount and have, in metal, 3D printed clamp+mount for the shape of the seat tube. But arrived at this point replacing the frame makes more sense.

I believe I read somewhere Canyon would again stop doing this and return to a removable mount.
