    Is this the UK’s hardest cycling sportive? | Fred Whitton 2026



    The Wheelbase Fred Whitton Challenge. 175km, 3,600 metres of climbing. Gradients up to 33%.

    We were still cold by the time we hit The Struggle. Double digit gradients straight from the gun, but Kirkstone Pass on the other side made it worth every second. That descent reminded me exactly why we ride bikes.

    I could detail every climb and road but I’d be here all day. The Struggle, Honister Pass, Newlands Hause, Whinlatter Pass, Fangs Brow, Cold Fell, Hardknott Pass and Wrynose Pass. All of it brutal. All of it worth it.

    So how hard is the Fred? You’ll have to watch and decide for yourself.

      Great video mate, you smashed it! Makes me want to sign up for next year 😀 How ridiculous is Hardknott!? I did it for the first time a few weeks ago. No amount of research prepares you for the sight of that looming 2nd steep section as you’re blowing out tour arse on the flat(ish) middle bit 😂 Love it!

      I was there too. What an amazing day we all had. Did similar to you. 7hr59 on saddle but total time was 9hr50. Took my time at feed stops and to take photos. I got off the bike half way up Wrynose for a long time as I felt dizzy. Once I composed myself and got over Blea Tarn, the last 10 miles was a race to the finish. Said I’d only do it once but I’m going to enter ballot for next year for sure. Got unfinished business!!
      I saw a horrible accident after Wrynose and my thoughts were with the lady being looked after by the paramedics, certainly made me concentrate more after that.

      First and foremost congrats you did bloody amazing well done also love the motley crue intro very fitting video footage was awesome, it was awesome overall it’s definitely something I want to do next year plus after watching you I’m excited for my event next weekend 24 “ the struggle ten “ I’ll have to watch this video day before and maybe in the morning 👍cheers dude again congrats
