To preface, I know nothing about actual bikes. I've ridden them, but I've only ever owned like, Huffy's from Walmart. This is my first real bike. Picked it up used for $80. I know I need new tires and tubes, but other than that, it looks like it was ridden 5 times and then tossed in a basement.

What else should I be replacing? Seat is torn and the seat post looks like it's been exposed to some type of corrosion. Should I replace that? Also, should I be replacing like brake pads and stuff? I took pictures so y'all could see, but I don't know what I'm looking at. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I know I could take it to a repair shop, but I'm not looking for a $300 repair bill on an $80 bike. I want to learn and do as much as I can myself

I’d replace tires, tubes, brake pads and lube the chain. Then use it and replace anything that you think needs it, like the seat or grips

  2. really depends on how far you want to go….looks like it was left in a pretty humid area and has a bit of surface rust. along with the other poster mentioned you might consider a full tear down to get at all the bearings in lower and headset…..

or just replace brakes and ride it until it dies
