  1. Patrick Vs Benji GT picks

    Total scores after stage 6:
    Benji: 17
    Patrick: 37

    Patrick takes a flying lead.

    Breakdown:

    Benji Stage 6 picks
    Route release: Milan 0 pts
    Week before: Milan 0 pts
    Day before: Magnier 5 pts
    Stage 6 score: 5

    Patrick Stage 6 picks
    Route release: Magnier 14 pts
    Week before: Magnier 10 pts
    Day before: Magnier 5 pts
    Stage 6 score: 29

The great Milan Vs Magnier battle was settled today with Magnier coming out on top. Except it wasn't was it, because we were robbed of a good sprint by the stupid course design…..(Can you tell I'm in a huff about this? Apologies folks I'm rather riled up after hearing a broadcaster say crashes make cycling entertaining. You know what would have been entertaining….seeing the sprinters ACTUALLY SPRINT)

Anyway, the positives for Benji is that in picking Magnier yesterday he only falls 20 behind instead of 25.
(Anyone else getting concerned that Milan might not actually win in Milan, and the entire city will need to be refunded?)

The spreadsheet maker tuned in stupidly early to the race today, got a bit bored and starting fiddling with Excel. I'd therefore like to put everyone on notice that I've started generating accuracy percentages for optimal dullness. This will provide no meaningful information whatsoever.

Looking ahead to stage 7 both competitors locked in Jonas in the week before preview. Back in December Patrick failed to lock in a name, but with Benji picking Paul Seixas this won't matter points wise. Points difference therefore depends on the day before picks.

Meanwhile Benji stated that he thought the whole race would be over after Blockhaus. But the race to be the winner of this GT picks competition is only beginning surely?

  2. This has been a deeply unserious Giro the organizers should be ashamed of themselves. They clearly don’t care about the riders or the teams or the race or even the fans. They just want to be quirky and put cobbles in every sprint finish because it looks pretty on tv. They’re treating the giro like it’s NASCAR apparently crashes get more clicks and comments on social media eh?

  3. If you want an anticlimactic sprint finish where half of the sprinters falls down and anyone who happens to stand upright wins, please contact those organizers they will design one for you and it will come with an official UCI approval.

  4. Easiest way to make cycling slower is really simple. Ban carbon wheels, ban deep section wheels, mandate the use of a standard aluminum wheels with +1900gr, mandate 30” standard tires.

No special versions, everyone uses the same stock wheel + tire combo.

That alone will remove 2/3 km/h on average.

Will UCI ever consider this? Absolutely not

  5. I really appreciate your concern for rider safety. I completely agree with you concerning UCI, too. Jens Voigt also called for a different finish and more rider safety on German television.

  6. The entire cycling industry relies on new bikes getter faster– so the UCI reducing the speeds of WT races at the highest level goes against the year over year bike manufacturing innovations that are making even the average amateur racer faster.

  7. Teams pick TT tires, that's their choice. They have plenty of other options.

And for the final, yes the UCI should do better but the teams know the route, often do recons, why do the.riders arrive like that in such a turn? I agree with Patrick, slow down bros and if you take a risk, well…

  8. The sprinters teams were going unbelievably slow, they looked like they were being careful and they all slid out on exactly the same spot. It was a ludicrous finish, what a waste of a stage.

  9. Those cobbles in the finish are the stupidest course design I have ever seen.

    Several people need fired.

I better not ever hear a peep about gearing, bar width, or sock height ever again.

  10. If anything that final turn had a neutral or slightly negative camber. Combine that with knobbly cobbles that will collect water in the divots, and then put that in the most strategic portion of the sprint where everyone will be fighting for position…

I’m an amateur cyclist and avid cycling spectator, and even I could have told the organizers that such a corner was a complete failure.

It was a sprint stage, where all the hype and drama leads to those last few hundred meters. And the organizers/UCI very much ruined this stage.

  11. Hot take, Bahrain should expend everything to get Eulalio in the break. If they think he's good enough to win the Giro, see if Visma are able to chase your whole team for 240km.

    No I'm not crazy 😂

  12. 18:24 Re teams using TT tyres. In Motorsport, a number of racing series declares an event/race as wet, changing how the race starts and can alter the race duration. I don’t see a reason why the UCI can’t do the same, forcing teams to use their slower but safer tyres and or altering the finish line on the fly if the weather conditions are deemed unsafe.

  13. Honestly yeah, that's a good point. If a team knows they're going to be racing in the wet, then they probably should be using wet weather tires with better traction.

It might be slower, but it's probably faster (and safer) than crashing. Seems fairly logical to me.
