Today I installed a Racktime Lightit on my Merida Crossway XT. I found the placing to be rather difficult, instead of the rack connection I used the mudguard connection to have the rack not too high above the wheel. I still feel the center of the rack and the rack lower second tube to be somewhat backwards of the bike. What do you think?

Please don't mind the inclination I will still fix that, center will be even further.

  1. If it works, use the mudguard eyelets. Not an issue if you don’t plan on installing mudguard.

If you use the rack eyelets, what is the issue with rack being too high? You can extend the 2 connecting bars to the seat stay, so rack remains level.

i think it looks OK for a first go.

in your place i would keep using mudguard eyelets as you did. re: the rack being too far rearward, i think its OK.

I would want it far back to avoid my heels hitting the pannier bag. Your bike looks like you probably don’t have big feet, so it’s prob not an issue for you. Regardless you don’t have any options to shift the rack forward or rearward as you don’t want significant angle on the rack itself.

  3. Weights behind the axle either way, I’d try to keep it low as you gain a lot more vertically than you lose horizontally.
