Hey everybody. I joined the brompton club recently and got a 12 speed Electric C-Line. It came with a few minor things wrong with it from the start. The spring of the protective flap over the battery connector was unhooked. Not a problem I put it back. The handlebar wasn’t properly aligned with the front wheel. The shifter cable tension was to low and the derailleur didn’t shift properly. These were all things I could fix easily myself. Somehow the bag got cut in shipping not a big deal Brompton already sent a replacement. But there was one thing that was a bit of that I didn’t realize immediately. The block on the advanced rear triangle that is supposed to lock the fold with the seat post halfway down was adjusted to wrong. So the first time I went on a train ride with some changeovers the bike unfolded on the stairs down to the underpass. It than swung back with quite a bit of force. I adjusted the block and now it’s all tight and good.

I realized now though that my front chainring probably got bent by this action. (See Gif)

It’s bent exactly where the hook would hit the chainring when the bike is properly folded.

Is this worth a warranty claim?

I didn’t buy it directly from brompton but from a third party online bike seller. Do I claim the warranty directly at brompton or should I go through the reseller.

Should I claim warranty or not?

Sorry to hear you went through that. Bad quality dealer it seems.  Dealers represent Brompton and are to give Brompton level setup and service.  They should address your problems directly I suppose if you have a problem with them, find out who the Brompton dealer representative is and complain through them.

I’m just guessing it’ll be interesting to see what others say and advise based on real experience.

No harm trying to claim warranty…

Brompton are quite good with warranties id say usually, but they might ask you to go through the company that sold you the bike..

They might need details like proof of purchase and the bikes serial number to sort the claim

  3. I found with our 2 brommies; As like you I learned how to wrench these bikes; All the parts are there, but to appreciate the bike you need to treat it like a hobby and be a bike mechanic. As for the chainring, take it off and spin the crank, checking for flatness of the spider, or the ring could have been put on with crap between the ring and spider. even the guard on the ring can flex it, or just make the ring flat again. lastly if all is flat, remove the crank and check the tapered flats in the crank, and the flats on the bottom bracket (you should be able to slide the crank on the BB without slamming it on and it sit solid on the BB, without rocking. I used a file to take out the lumps on the flats in the crank. ( caution don’t go nuts with the file, just hit the high bumps )

As long as you bought it from a verified shop then you’ve still got a full warranty OP. Sorry to hear about your issues I basically had to rebuild my Brompton from new so many minor issues which should not have been there.
