In this video, I set off on a ride along the iconic River Mersey, taking in some incredible scenery before heading toward something a little more forgotten…
Hidden away is the abandoned Ditton Junction railway station — a once-busy station now left to time.
I take you along for the full journey — from a peaceful riverside ride to exploring the remains of this historic location. Using cinematic drone footage and immersive vlog-style filming, we get a unique perspective of the station while diving into its past and what it used to be.
This one’s a mix of adventure, history, and calm escape — with some stunning aerial views along the way.

  1. Takes me back 😂. First time I went to Wembley to watch Widnes play rugby we left from Ditton station. Cassies (Castaways) our old haunt 😂 x Thanks for all the info Ben, great video xx

  2. Hey brother, fantastic video from around your local area, for a bit of shite seeing😆😅😂
Anyway on a serious note this was great fun following this with you, and you did brilliant narrating
    this.
The highlights for me were certainly St Mary's,and the old railway. (Fantastic Ben) 👍👍
So much history around this great place mate.
So curious who Pickering was,or what pickering is in relation to this pasture?
Hope your family are all well and blessed Ben. God bless you!

  3. Thanks for reporting on that area I remberer walking past that station with my freind in the early 80s from st mikes school and it looked abandend and spooky then. I thought it was closed down then. i was too young to go to castaways but someone told me rats would run over your feet when you left the club becase it was near the canal, also you forgot to say that this is the station Homewardbound song was witten by simon Garfunckel in the 60s not widnes station great thumbnail picture too 👈

  4. Really enjoyed being a passenger on your trip Ben, Ditton Junction has changed beyond recognition, but you inserted some old images of when it was operational. Castaways was to the left of the station coming from Widnes. Pickerings Pasture looks so serene, I’ll definitely visit there whenever I visit hometown next.
Thanks Ben, it’s refreshing to watch a young person explore Widnes with respect and courtesy to all he encounters. Look forward to your next trip👍oh, btw, Widnes was in the county of Lancashire until 1974, after which it amalgamated with Runcorn to become Halton, in the county of Cheshire. ( much prefer Lancashire tbh)

  5. I loved this video, I didn’t realise Ditton Junction was built so long ago! You’re uncovering lots about Widnes I didn’t know in an interesting way as even though I always thought it was sad to see the station derelict, I never thought to Google its history. Please be careful though as some of it looks like you were traversing territory when no man has ventured before 🙂

  6. Many people of a certain age will remember the Cazzies just by the station Ben. I wonder what the plans are for this station ? There was talk of it being re-opened but nothing seemed to have come of it.
