I feel like they look tiny on this bike, but I needed something with zero flare, so it's easier to take on the subway. Though I feel like everything always looks a bit awkward because I have tall frames with even more seatpost and stem extension lol.

Third picture shows the Salsa Woodchipper bars I was running beforehand for comparison.

Edit: see comments for shorter quill and longer stem

  1. The super short stem with the ultra long uncut fork is what’s wild about this bike, doesn’t have anything to do with those handlebars 😂😂😂. How tall are you? What size is this bike? I have so many questions.

The bars don’t look goofy. They look good.

What looks goofy is your tiny 40mm threadless stem and your comically long threadless quill adapter.

Not more than before, because as others have stated the stem situation you’ve got going on is hogging all the goofy here. So if the previous setting was fine by you, subway doors aside, then send it brother

    1. Yes, they look goofy. 2. Does it really matter?

It’s more the length of quill that’s exposed to get the height you want, which looks silly, than the width of the bars. But the point is to ride it, comfortably, not stare at it.

  5. Nitto mt-10 or any other old quill mtb riser stem would get the bars where you want and look much better. There are a variety of brands that’s make high stack quill stems in larger handlebar diameters these days (Crust, Analog, etc.) but those aren’t cheap.

Doesn’t matter if it looks goofy, it’s your bike, your style, if it is comfortable and you ride it then it is just right…

  7. They do kind of look goofy perched on top of that spindly tall quill. They just do.

But if you love the drop bars and riding position then ride it like a proud champion. Who gives a f¥(£ what anyone thinks.

    Goofy is the new cool.

That’s just how a 26er to drop bar conversion ends up looking. If it rides well then ride it.

At least it doesn’t have negative reach like that atrocious trek 1000 we saw earlier

In my opinion, a road style quill stem will look way better – Nitto makes nice stems that aren’t terribly expensive and there are plenty of options that you can get up high. Using 31.8 clamp diameter bars on older bikes is difficult- you have to use an adapter and it’s very hard (damn near impossible) to make that look good. Plenty of lower cost 26.0 or 25.4 bars out there!

    Does it look goofy? Yes.

Is it comfortable? Does it work for you? Is it setup safely and correctly? Sounds like the answer is yes. 🙂

Who cares about the look? Its your bike to ride.

You can get silver drop bars and high rise silver technomic stem if you wanted to change the look.

I switched from drops with a high rise short stem to a albatross handlebar with a low rise long stem. Gives me similar hand positions and narrow profile of drops but more upright ride.
