20f. Thinking about trying road biking for a while now, don’t really know anything about bikes so yeah is this a good one? I’m experienced in mountain biking but never owned one. I can see the chain is rusty but I’m pretty sure i can just buy a new one. Like get it serviced? But um yeah is this a good one? Can probably drop the price to $120 or $100.

Chain is rusty, that’s a bad sign overall. You’ll probably need a new cassette too and maybe chainrings, and in general just gives a warning sign that the owner didn’t take good care of the bike. By the time you replace all of this, plus cables, brake pads, etc, etc, it’ll become a lot more expensive. For that money I’d get a bike that doesn’t need any maintenance.

    Offer $150
I have this bike and I love it. It will need a new chain.

I’m with the other guy I say keep looking. My dad had this road bike around 2010. Back then it was literally bottom of the line trek road bike. The groupset is shimano 2300 (discontinued over 10 years ago) and honestly didn’t feel great back then, I can’t imagine this one with all the rust and sun damage. The plastic on the hood used to be black fyi. This thing bike has been stored outside. It would cost too much too much to fix up what’s visibly wrong with it let alone what we can’t see. You can find much better deals if you’re patient on Facebook marketplace.

Surface rust on the chain. See if it moves freely or are the links are locked up. If they move freely, take a steel brush and triflow to clean it up. Also clean up Surface rust on other bolts new chain is about $20. If everything shifts properly and brakes and tires are good then you’re golden.
