Hello everyone.
I have just recently purchased the Madone SL5 Gen 8 for myself and had did some upgrades.
Upgraded to full Ultegra 8170 groupset, added some rsl aero bottles. (First time disassembling the bike and installing the groupset all by myself, well i had to ask the LBS to open up the BB so that i could insert the battery in, i dont have the tools ahaha)
My zipp 454 nsw should be arriving tomorrow.
Now i wanted to make the bike full aero and remove all the spacers on the handlebar.
I tried it just now and it felt perfect. Might need to adjust the saddle rearwards for a bit.
The question is, do i have to put in some “spacers” above the stem (below the top cap) to try it out for a week or so before deciding to cut the steerer?
Thank you everyone. Every input counts.

You’ll want those spacers as the as the top cap needs to compress on them. The issue you’re going to run into is getting a bolt long enough to get to the expansion plug (you’ll need the expansion plug to be lined up with the stem bolts)
Yes.
You also need to be extraordinarily careful tightening the stem bolts because you are likely below the expander plug and you could easily over torque and crush the fork because that plug isnt supporting the stem.
I don’t mean to be rude, but you have the technical knowhow to install a new groupset, but don’t know that about headset compression?
