Day three takes us 100km north, cycling from Mannheim to Mainz as we continue following the Rhine through Germany. The riding feels steadier now, giving us space to settle into the journey, pass through small towns, and take in the rhythm of the route.
Running alongside the ride is a second thread. Interwoven throughout the episode are moments from a longer sit-down conversation Doug and I recorded at the very end of the trip. Looking back on the journey, we talk about things like couchsurfing, relying on strangers, and what it’s like arriving somewhere new after a long day on the bike.
The day finishes at our couchsurfing host Mo’s house, someone who at this point in the journey is still a complete stranger… but not for long.
This episode sits between movement and reflection: a day on the road, and a look back at what the journey gave us beyond the kilometres.
