Hey guys Ill be doing kinda an extended stay in the dmv area I was just wondering if anyone knew of any bikes shops in that area that follow the same ethos as this sub or that you guys just seem to really love. And if you just want to shout out your favorite bike shops where you live I’d love that also !!! And obligatory pic of new bike we built the homie who needed a bigger frame. Vintage gt with a parts bin and a late night 🙂

Unfortunately, all the bike shops in my area only want to sell high end $5,000+ carbon fiber wunderbikes.

I asked one of them if they stocked square taper BBs and they straight up laughed 😞

  2. Check out Dirt Rooster just outside of Baltimore City. Not sure where you’re at in the DMV, but they’re a great shop with great people.

You can always look for a local bike co-op, very much vibe-aligned.

There’s a great co-op in NE DC called Gearin’ Up. Near NoMa metro station

It’s a bit farther all the way up in Newark DE but newark bike project is a great spot! Love those guys

Takoma Bicycle are lovely people, although it’s a chill, quiet shop. Not much in the way of bike shops with a punk ethos anywhere in the DMV that I know of. Baltimore Bicycle Works is easily my favorite around the region who also shares that same vibe

  7. Phoenix Bike Co-op. Arlington Virginia. Non profit. They have cool builds. Just about any part your looking for dirt cheap. Also they teach children the community. How to build a bike and then they get to keep the bike they build.

The shop I went to the most when I was living in NE DC was BicycleSPACE. Solid staff, cool selection of bikes and components, much less stuffy than most of the other ‘premium’ bike dealerships in the city. Gearin’ Up is home to some of the best people I’ve ever met. The whole cycling scene seems to revolve around DuPont circle, seems to always be some messenger folk taking a break, the DC Bike Party always rolls out of there, just lots of cool people to meet and ride with.

Baltimore Bike Works is my favorite but I live in the city so its just whats closest. Its a worker owned Co-Op so not snobby at all. Joe’s bike shop has a good reputation as well but ive only ever baught tubes from them.

Ardent bike repair in Denver. The owner Tom rides sick bikes (90s mtbs) and can fix anything, nice guy too. Definitely the xbike spot in Denver in my opinion!

  11. Servis Podhod in Ljubljana (Slovenia). Literally underground and absolutely the vibe of making things work and figuring out a way. They got used bikes and they will help you figure out how to mac-gvyer every single thing. One of their mechanics is a friendly acqueintance of mine and his guidance and advice is reposnsible for me setting up my first two bikes as well as him building a super cool KONA Fire Mountain for my GF.

Tho Podhod is more VIBE and less aesthetic of this sub 🙂 [Loose Cycles](http://www.loosecycles.com/) is the aesthetic and the hip expensive choice. Managed to buy my hite rite there at absurd but slightly less than ebay price of 100€.

Also [RECIKLO](https://www.instagram.com/servisreciklo/), guy works out of his garage and builds up recycled frames and sell them primarily through instagram. Trully the definition of parts bin but maaaaan this guy takes part bins FAR.

Pic is the vibe of Servis Podhod

Jacksonville FL checking in. Zen Cog is a great shop with great people, and we’ve got the Honeypot bicycle co-op here as well.

Anybody have Berlin, DE recommendations? Or any other German cities for that matter?

There’s a million bike shops here, but most of them seem to cater to a (very basic) commuter clientele and stock products from the same couple suppliers.

Bike club in Falls Church has been there a long time and has a lot of unique bike parts and used stuff.

Haven’t been in years because I moved, but used to be a real one. Looks like ownership changed in 2023 tho, so can’t vouch for it now.

If you’re near Rockville or get off the metro from DC to there, Rockville Bike Hub is pretty solid.
