Bought a new RD (made by Btwin, same as bike, cassette Shimano all from Decathlon). Replaced cable too, but gears skip and I can’t get on to the biggest 2, the second biggest slips back down as soon as I let go of the shifter.
Everything seems in line, no crashes.
Any ideas? Incompatibility?

Did you pull the cable taught? With the shifter in the position equivalent to the smallest gear?
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkZxPIZ1ngY&t=157s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkZxPIZ1ngY&t=157s) This is everything you need to know about rear derailleur adjustments.
You probably need to adjust the lower limit screw
Edit: adjusting the H and L screws doesn’t make a difference
Barrel adjuster will be your friend if limit screws did nothing. If it’s skipping, loosen or tighten your barrel adjuster.
I’m not too sure but it looks like it could be a simple limit screw adjustment; Realign the Derailleur so the hanger can reach the two gears. Or it could be your cable isn’t adjusted enough, but in the video it looks tight.
Edit: anything that you add aftermarket is usually different, if not, then something could have been installed wrong or isn’t synchronized right.
This stuff gets me so frustrated too so just be patient and hang in there, you’ll be on the road in no time 🙂
Is there a spacer between the cassette and the hub?
Have you made sure that your RD and Shifter are compatible ? I made this mistake. Bought a Microshift Advent RD thinking that my Microshift 9 speed shifter (which came stock with my Rockrider ST120) would be compatible as both are Micorhsift, turns out they aren’t.
