2019 Kona Libre. I’ve had this bike for a while and it serves me well. I tend to beat the piss out of it on mtb trails but it takes it just fine. It’s still pretty much as it was from new except the cabron(sic) zipp wheels and post/saddle. My question to the group is: is it still cool with respect to the current gravel zeitgeist or does it come off as a dated aesthetic? Please be honest, my skin is thicc and I’m most unlikely to part with it because shit be expensive and I have other financial obligations. Just curious about my drip, as they say

Was it ever cool with that seat? 😉

(I know they’re supposedly comfy as all heck. But still.)

I think the frame looks really modern for that old bike. It’s a cool bike, that saddle though… 😉

Seems like a great work horse if you ride it on mtb trails and it looks like brand new.

  3. Do you think it’s cool? Because that’s what matters most.

FWIW, I think it’s pretty cool, the colour is pretty amazing.

I cant believe that you ride such an old, ugly bike.  What the fuck were you thinking?

What if someone sees you on the gravel roads? What then? And what if you get dust on it? Or a scratch..
    What then?

You must go out now and buy the latest bespoke steel frame.  And do that every year. Quickly, act now.

And that saddle…. remove it immediately for an uncomfortable one.

I really hope you have $750 bibs and a moustache…

Freakin’ cool. But who cares, if you like it and love to shred it, then everyone with a negative opinion can f off.
About the saddle: if it suits you: again who cares? I have an ISM time trail saddle on my Salsa Cutthroat because I like it. And same as your saddle: if you sit on it, you are happy so what the rest of the world thinks..

Do not seek validation from outside my son.
    Only validation from within matters.

  7. The current gravel zeitgeist is honestly kinda stupid. All electronic gruppos, huge and heavy cassettes and derailleurs, comically wide tires. Super high-end bikes weighing in at like 8,5 kgs.

It’s not THAT long ago that 25mm was considered “wide & comfy” for road and the max clearance of something like 35mm for gravel was considered more than enough.

Do yourself a favour and remind yourself that 35 IS massive. All those nerds with with 50mm Thunder Burt-equipped training wheels are overcompensating. Rocks or not, it’s just a goddamn road, you could cover 95% of whatever route they’re riding on GP5k 28’s and we all know it.

Plus that Sram HRD 1×11 gruppo is genre defining, and still much better in terms of reliability and weight/price/efficiency than whatever AXS or GRX stuff that came later.

I beat the piss out of my Kona and it’s incredibly durable. Sweet bike.
