Don’t miss this vital step ☝🏽
So many people spend lots of time stretching their calves over and over again but they continue to tighten right back up…😞
As a physical therapist, when it comes to improving mobility and decreasing muscle tightness- I know how powerful movement can be ✅
Following up a typical stretch with a movement that then uses the muscle can be a game changer 🙌🏼
For example- following up a calf stretch with 15-30 calf raises can help to make the mobility gains last longer ☝🏽
It may not be immediate- consistency is key, especially if your calf muscles have been tight for a long time. You may need a few times of doing this to unlock them 👀
With arthritis, especially knee and hip arthritis, calf muscles can become really tight making walking, stairs and inclines difficult 😣
This may be just what you need…

Thank you for your videos. They are so helpful.
Thank you. What if I'm having tightness in my lower back that feels heavy when I try to do Asian squat. I have bad side effects after cancer treatments and nausea, vomiting, dizziness all allow for on bed exercises. Tyia ❤
See playing football we always stretched then started doing stuff so I never even thought about it like that honestly! I’ll stretch now and lay on the couch and wonder why my legs are still damn right! Great video
I’m self conscious about having large calf muscles.
You know your stuff. Thanks
Thanks for the vid Dr. Is this the general rule for all muscle stiffness? Stretch it then use/load it. I've been stretching my pecs for many weeks but still tight n sore
Have you advice for tight hamstrings
First doing the calf raises and then doing the stretches is the right order . Not the other way around. Only common sense. One can leave up to an hour or even more between the raises and the stretches. Letting the calves rest and fill up with glycogen before stretching them makes it even more effective.
What about for people with nuropathy who have pain standing let alone calf raises.
Lol who's this woman? She can read me bedtime stories 😊
How have I not heard of this before? Has this been fact checked?
Will calf raise help with toning too?
Thank you
How many calf raises should we do?
She looks. So irritating
My calf was so tight and sore for like 3 days. I literally did this and it worked IMMEDIATELY!! 🙌🏾🙏🏽🙏🏽
Don’t make sense from simple anatomy perspective. Muscles lose -> muscle back tight. You need to keep it loose in order for it to stay that way.
Thanks ☺️
Been running for decades with no calf problems. I recently started cycling and now I can't run more than a quarter mile without having to stop due to calf pain. My calves start burning and tightening up and I can barely walk back to my house it's so painful. What is the problem?!? I have a race next month and I need to be able to run!! Thanks
Mam, why don't u tell us how many repeatations are required per excercise ?
👌🏾
I got really bad cramps while doing the calf raise actually. Had a meniscus surgery and was non weight bearing and strugling with rehab coz of calf cramping… who wouldve thought! I dont know what to fo now

I have chronic plantar faciitis and I have tried calf raises. But they seem to flare up my pf. My pf is from tight calves. I don’t know what to do. It’s been over a year and now I’m pregnant and terrified.
I had no idea! I’ve been missing this step for 20 years! Alyssa to the rescue as usual. This channel is the cats pajamas!
Thighs and calf muscles have become tight after doing calisthenics
Hey Alyssa, your definitely WONDER WOMAN 😂😂
I have loose calves. Suggestions please?
You have THE BEST exercises. I suffered a stroke on Nov 1st and had been doing other calf muscles exercises which did not work. I started just a few days ago using your exercises and have noticed major improvement–KUDOS to YOU!
Thank you 🙏🏼 Can tight calf muscles provoke a back heel inflammation?? Am suffering from both !! So painful 😓
Cute sneakers 👟 what are those?
Extremely helpful! 👍
My understanding is that is better to do work the muscle before stretching for lasting gains. Is this from experience or is there research that supports this?
They tell us we shouldnt exercise after static stretches causes injury
Thank you! I have extreme pes cavus and it's more pronounced on my right side.
