Picked up this Schwinn Voyageur SP for $160. Having trouble finding the year it was made, did some research and I'm guessing 1983-1985 based on the color.
Was curious about what is missing from the original. I know the seat, tires and handlebar tape are new. Everything else on it seems to be original. Is it missing a rack?
Any suggested upgrades?
Thank you! 🙂

I think your year is pretty right on. They released the SP (touring) Voyageur around that time, but it still had a more aggressive geometry up until about ’84, when things relaxed a tad. The color also lines up with the SP, so yeah there would have also been racks (which you clearly have bosses to support). They dropped the SP designation (and that color) after 1985.
When it comes to old bikes, I’m in the “if it works, it works” camp and tend to resist adding modern components to old systems until I’m forced to. Are the DiaCompe cantis all original?
i believe the 85 had cinelli bar and stem. source- i got one.
$160 is a great deal for this. While the normal Voyageur used Columbus Tenax, the SP used a better Columbus Tube set. This would make an excellent touring bike or a commuter.
