Though I could see it making sense to a full-time manufacturer if it means they can do a couple more sets a day or handle a couple fewer returns.
I can understand such a price for a commercial use, but what if/when the manufacturer goes bankrupt/disappears?
I’ve used pieces of photographic equipment that used to cost more than cars when new, specifically ULF enlargers or drum scanners. Many of the manufacturers no longer exist but the equipment still runs efficiently. What will it be with these monthly subscriptions when such a thing happens?
I can’t fathom that cable management from the digital readouts.

It‘s not like there will need to be a ton of software upgrades to measure wheels

This is one of the most infuriating things that has come to the consumer market. You pay a premium for the product then you pay another premium, in installments, for the rest of its (or your) life. I really hate it that they can get away with this. People (or corporations/shops) shouldn’t encourage this shit (unless they will pass the costs down to us, the consumer, in which case they don’t give a f*ck).
In this particular case, i’d rather do it the old fashioned way. At the end of the day, if the wheel can be trued, you’ll do it (unless it’s your first time and you might mess something up). If not, it’s time for a new set of wheels. I mean for the price of that device alone, you can buy AT LEAST 7 sets of proper wheels (again, this is if you’re a home mechanic or someone who has the disposable income to do it) and call it a day.

This is the trend in almost all consumer sectors. Add lipstick to the pig and get ’em on a recurring payment plan rather than charging once at the time of purchase. I’ll stick with my Park TS-2, paid off since the late ’90s.
I just trued my wheel with the rim brake pad, it’s within 1mm the whole way around and took me 10 minutes of stuffing around.
That’s insane/stupid. A fool and his money. Lol.
For that kind of money it better make me a sandwich while it build wheels for me.
