After my 10 year old mtb alu frame cracked on my last 3 month New Zealand trip, I decided to go for steel.
I loved the mtb/gravel conversion I had (mtb frame+ rigid 29er fork + drop bar) -> see last pic, as it allowed me to fit any tire, wide or narrow + the geometry made it a great companion even on rough trails.
I now went for a Ritchey Ascent and I absolutely love the thing. Only been riding 10km so far but the bike is super comfortable & rides great on pretty much any terrain. Quite similar to my old setup.
This is V1. I'll probably cut the steerer tube a bit and may change the saddle.

Well you made an excellent choice. I love my ascent so much
Don’t cut the steerer tube. You will regret it later.
