Formula E has officially unveiled its Gen4 race car, which will be introduced next season when its new regulatory cycle gets underway.
The car is a “statement of intent” of Formula E’s ambition to become the fastest single-seater series on the planet, with the Gen4 taking a significant step towards F1.
With speeds in excess of 335 km/h (208 mph) and a 0โ100 km/h (0โ60 mph) time of around 1.8 seconds, it is expected to be quicker than a current Formula 2 car and just a few seconds adrift of F1 machinery.
Check out how it looks on track at Circuit Paul Ricard!

electric cars sound like shit.
Very nice! super! how many laps till recharge? 3?5?
Bro these cars are louder than current F1 ๐ฎ
Golf cart with a wing.
Better than F1
Formula E is full electricโ , but f1 now is formula battery ๐๐
I'm watching next season, you won a fan. The environment โค these cars ๐.
They need to make these cars make more noise somehow
Freaking tank missile
Would rather watch a stock series of McMurty Speirlings. That would actually be cool.
The car looks awesome! What you're seeing is the future of Formula-1. If the FIA and automakers get their way, this is precisely what Formula-1 will be with time. Their stated goal of reaching zero carbon emissions only has a chance of happening with elecric propulsion. Once Formula One reaches parity with Formula-E via the FIA's F1 regulations, the FIA will likely stop sanctioning Formula-E in favor of Formula-1. This year's F1 regulations places it half way there. You can easily see the pattern. It started with "hybrid" F1 cars, that used a little bit of electricity to give a minimal boost to assist in overtaking or defending. Now it's a required 50/50 split. Follow the steps and you see what must come next; FIA regulations for F1 in 2031 that mandate 75/25 propulsion ratio in favor of electricity. As Formula-1 cars become more dependent upon electricity for their propulsion, fan interest will fade away, until all that is left are the Formula-E fans that switch to watch Formula-1 after it takes over.
This thing looks bad-ass, and appears almost as fast as those McMurtry cars.
Seems very close from the floor, does this car use loads of ground effect ?
When will they ever switch to proper slick tyres?
Why does this league restrict itself with grooved tires, etc.? It's supposed to demonstrate the maximum performance of an electric car. Being a bit faster than Formula 1 would be fantastic.
The sound is absolutely awful. Butcher ir sawmil
The noise of the cars is just unbelievable irritating. Like a dentist visit in hell.
Finally, a beautiful Formula E car! ๐๐ผ
F1 made a big mistake trying to go electric, Formula E is just way way ahead of anything F1 can do when it comes to electric technology and the Formula E tech is a lot simpler to understand.
Yup, f1 should stick to majority or entirely ice driven. Those E cars r much cooler than this f1 even the sound
It looks faster. Will they still race on mickey-mouse circuits?
Junk
I am not an expert, but it seems that this full electric car behaves like a car with a combustion engine without a battery. So: no clipping, no lost in terms of speed half-way the straight. In other words: the only thing it comes down to: how late can I brake and how soon can I press my 'gas' pedal. I think this beats Formula 1 at this point. The only downside is the sound…..
Funny how all open-wheel high level classes became close to equal – SuperFormula, Indycar, FormulE and even Formula 1 with it's downgrade
The car looks good again, but it still can't produce cornering speed, it's not an agile vehicle.
I don't think you can race normally with these either.
Looks awesome and seems fast! Is it able to run in standard circuits?
Now, take that ugly ass halo, and put on an IndyCar type windscreen, and it'll be golden.
Nice to see an electric car that actually pulls to the end of a straight, these new Formula E regs look properly thought through for what they are.
It just makes F1 look poor by comparison. The current regs feel overcomplicated and compromised and the racing suffers for it. F1 used to be raw and exciting in the V8 times, now it often feels engineered more on paper than on track.
If electric is the direction, commit to it like this. If not, go back to what made F1 great. Right now itโs stuck in the middle, and it shows, itโs simply rubbish and will be until it changes direction, but Shows if itโs all electric it works and if itโs all ICE it works, the Frankenstein we have at the moment, utter shite
looks good for sure, sounds like crap.
With Slicks the would be much faster! But then it will come too expensiv… i would say Michelin should enter the Party ๐
Overgrown RC cars. Not impressed.
"Engine feels good, much faster than before, amazing"
Finally a good looking FE car…
From F4 laptimes to Indycar beaters. All in the same period as the current Indycar chassis.
slow ass cars should go more faster
Is this the one which puts 2nd gear and goes flying?
The car looks even better on the track. ๐
I know this might not bode the best for the racing itself, but I really hope that Formula E Management writes future regulations to give manufacturers more control over how they develop their cars. I want to see the limits that these Formula E cars can be pushed to when manufacturers are given the full technical freedom of a sport like F1
Edit: also, given the sheer pace of technological progression that Formula E has made over just the past few decades, I think either the Gen 4 Evo or the Gen 5 car will be the car to keep pace with or outpace an F1 car. The fact that weโre going from just barely being able to keep pace with an F3 car with the Gen 3 Evo to being only 5 seconds off the pace of an F1 car with the Gen 4 is proof positive of that imo
I love it. It's so good looking. Much better than Gen3
Even more better than F1 clibbing engine ๐
