I've got this old pink beauty from a friend and I wanna give her some love.
The paint is chipping a little around the seat clamp and there are many scratches. Also the colour is faded in some places so I can't just paint over the scratches with a new pink.
My question: How would you approach preserving it and keeping the original pattern as much as possible?
My current plan: Clean thoroughly, take a Dremel and lightly sand off the rust off of the worst places, then spray over with a clear coat.
Is my plan alright, or do you have a better idea? Thanks!

Depending on how much you like the frame you could choose to have it painted professionally. Not all clear coats are equally good, so you might want to check out some good products in your area.
Embrace the patina; you will likely make it worse without a complete redo. Take pride in the cleaning and regreasing, and run it.
Clean thoroughly then give it a couple coats of this: https://atlaspreservation.com/products/renaissance-wax-microcrystalline-wax-polish
