I installed a lockable front basket on my commuter e-bike.
I wanted to keep my rain gear in there at all times in case of sudden rain.
I also plan to use it to store the cables for my dashcam and my battery.
The basket is manufactured by Sagisaka in Japan.
I hope the concept of this lockable basket catches on and leads to more options becoming available.

Interesting. I saw an Italian basket/container *something* like that; but it was more of a barrel shape, set on its side (so, one would assume a little more aerodynamic). I tried to get in touch with the company but they never responded. I’m not sure how much security something like that really gives, though–it looks like it would be pretty easy to pull open/apart. On the other hand, nobody has bothered going into my (unlocked) Carradice-style Swift bag when I’ve left the bike parked, so…
Cool that. I just went and bought [**this**](https://www.amazon.nl/Givi-S250-waterdichte-gereedschapskist/dp/B072J9QBYZ) motorcycle tool-box. Still have to figure out how to make custom mount but it won’t be an issue. Might be small but is much more secure.
That looks like it could be pried open with a popsicle stick.
I would never leave any items on a bike that aren’t bolted to it while unattended. It’s just asking for trouble.
Out of all the things to lock, helmet? If someone’s gonna steal the bike, are they wearing the sweaty, dirty, beaten up helmet, as well?
I have for years just dangled my helmet from my handle bars and it has never been touch. Someone did steal my rubber chicken though – sore about that. (He was not locked)
I just put my helmet straps thru the u-lock so I don’t have to carry it.
Old milk crates and some common sense are my most valuable bike accessories!
I took an opposite approach. Hard panniers that are always open and I have a backpack for my stuff that I take with me when I lock up. Since everything is open and visible people can see there’s nothing worth stealing besides maybe the containers themselves and the bike, but the containers are fixed to the bike so you’d need tools.
