I’m a complete beginner getting into triathlon and just signed up for my first Ironman (70.3 this year). I’ve been riding casually but now need a proper road bike for serious training.

I’m looking at the Canyon Ultimate CF SL 7 AXS.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is this bike actually good value at the $4000 price?

  2. Will it be capable enough for Ironman training and racing.

  3. Should I stretch my budget now and get a higher model (CF SLX, BMC, etc.) so I don’t have to buy another bike in 2-3 years?

I like the idea of starting with something solid and modern, but I also don’t want to overspend if this bike is already perfectly fine for what I need.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Will you only be cycling for triatlons? If so, consider a different bike, something like the Speedmax as it is designed for triathlons (seating position, aero bars, etc).

  2. Im Not a Big sram guy, but yes, it’s good Value, and you really don’t need a slx, neither the few grams less nor the „stiffer“ Frame is noticable anywhere other than your Bank Account

Me personally, I can’t recommend the ETAP Rival AXS, even fine tuned, it kept dropping chains. I havent tried the E1 (most recent) so can’t speak about that one. But I’ll never encourage anyone to get the Etap (older) Rival Wireless.
