Cycling around the Lake Constance in 5 Days — Lindau & Crossing the Lake by Ferry With Bikes | Day 4

Day 4 of our Lake Constance cycling trip — and the day we traded the bike for a boat. 🚴⛴️

We leave Seecamping Bregenz at sunrise and ride 12.5 km west along the lake shore to Lindau Island. The town is completely quiet when we arrive — empty cobblestone streets, painted facades, ornate clocks on historic buildings. At this hour, it feels like the whole place belongs to us. 🌅

Lindau harbour is the most photographed view on Lake Constance: a white lighthouse, a stone Bavarian lion statue, and the Austrian Alps visible across the water. 🦁🏔️ We also stopped at the Old Town Hall — a 15th century building with a painted facade that tells the whole history of the town.

Then something different: we took the passenger ferry from Lindau to Friedrichshafen. 🛥️ Bicycles are allowed on board — there is a dedicated area on the deck. The crossing passes two stops: Wasserburg am Bodensee and Kressbronn am Bodensee.

From the water, Lake Constance is enormous. It covers 536 km² and is fed by the Alpine Rhine. On the boat, it looks almost like an open sea. 🌊

We arrived in Friedrichshafen — the city where Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin built his first airship in 1900. ✈️

We rode 13.5 km to Campingplatz Schloss Kirchberg in Immenstaad, set up the tent, and ended the day with a swim in the lake at sunset. 🏕️🌅

Day 4 total: 26 km cycled + ferry crossing.
