Absolutely gutted right now.
Brand new, just built bike (Polygon Siskiu T8), taken down off the work stand and almost immediately dropped against the corner of a brick wall.
The best part of a year of saving, over a month of the bike being kept in the box due to issues with my child's bike being delivered and wanting to build them at the same time, the overwhelming joy of building such a beautiful bike and knowing I'm going to get to ride it, all undone in a moment of carelessness. I suppose at least it served as a good example to my child that it's ok to cry, and I will forever treasure the memory of my child giving me the most loving hug of all time when they saw how upset I was, but it still makes me feel physically sick to look at even days later.
This isn't a "is this safe to ride" post; I know I need to get it checked out in person, but I'm having a hard time facing what's going to come of this. I've flicked through the
I think I've just been in shock and fooling myself for a couple of days that it's probably not going to be an issue, but the sunlight hitting the dent at the right angle today highlighted a few stress cracks in the frame.
It's done isn't it? Anyone been down this road and have any advice for me? Everything is brand spanking new but I simply don't have the money to splash on a new frame (appears to be AU$1k+) and likely won't for some time, so I don't know whether keeping the components until then would be worth it or if it'd be more cost-effective selling them and saving up for a whole bike (not just the frame).
Edit: Thanks so much everyone, I was expecting to be berated and grilled for this but am honestly feeling so much better about it all now. I will reach out to Polygon to be safe, but for now I'm going to categorise it as "keep an eye on" rather than "#&*@!!!!!!", and hey if I can ride this as if it weren't there I can see the dent becoming a beautiful memory for me.

So do we start a subreddit go-fund-me for a frame for this dude?! This post bums me out and I feel the sincerity.
Dang that sucks. I’m no frame repair expert so don’t take my word for it, but that doesn’t seem too bad to me? I mean obviously if it was carbon it would be done but being aluminum… I’d probably ride that unless I was sending 10 foot gaps.
Reach out and tell them what happened. It’s not a warranty thing but they may help you out with a crash replacement discount.
This is not an “is this safe to ride post” but I would ride that.
I wouldn’t huck big jumps/drops (because I never do lol), but for everyday trail riding I wouldn’t think twice.
Isn’t there crash replacement? Of course this would cost additionally money, but better then buying a completely new frame again.
it does suck but I would ride this and not think twice. I don’t do jumps though. climbs and average descents for me.
I could see me riding this for 5+ years without an issue popping up
If the cracks you mentioned are the ones visible in these photos- are you sure they aren’t just cracks in the paint? Aluminum doesn’t really crack like that afaik. Def worth getting it checked out but personally I’d still ride that on blue trails
Looks like a dent I’ve had in my frame since 2021…hasn’t stopped me from doing anything! It’s a MTB they’re kinda tough…..well maybe not the carbon ones
I’m really sorry that happened. Think about it this way though. Absolute worst case, you’re out about a third of the total cost of the bike to replace the frame. You saved for a year so you just lost three months. There are always deals on frames so you might find something even better to put all those parts on.
It’s fine. Get your kid to put his favourite sticker on and go ride. That bike will always be special between you two.
Those are not stress cracks the paint has just cracked. The aluminum elongated making the dent and the paint can’t do that so it cracks.
Man just fucking send it like Postman Pat. I’d be gutted to do that to my brand new bike but there’s no way I wouldn’t ride the thing. I’m not waiting on some minimum wage bike shop dork to look at it.
Done with what?? My man, rub some dirt on it and keep going.
(But also reach out to polygon and use this same story, maybe play the emotional details up a bit)
I’m more concerned with how easily this bent by dropping it on the corner of a brick wall. Did you drop it from the second story? I’ve had bikes tumble down literal mountains and just be a little scratched.
Bro it’s a mountain bike. I’ve crashed mine into rocks, roots and even went full on head-on into a tree after a bad landing. My bike has dings and dents all over, but I don’t care because they aren’t meant to stay pristine. Remove the bubble wrap mentality and go ride!
I put a dent worse than that in my steel frame and put another 25,000 miles on it, loaded with 60 pounds of gear on it the whole time. Still going.
Send it.
I’m just here to join the chorus of bummed riders. I hope you can still ride the bike, or get a discounted replacement. Good luck, and happy trails!!
Don’t buy Chinese frames kids
If you used a credit card, try and see if it has damage and theft protection.
If it does, it might cover this. But some cards don’t cover bikes and stuff. According to Google, some do though.
if this is aluminum (to me it kinda looks like) you could just get a repair? don’t panic yet.
