[Ep. 1106] In early January 2026 I filmed the morning rush hour in Utrecht, with hundreds of people cycling through a snowstorm. This video was filmed four months later, in April 2026 — and the number of people cycling past this point is much the same.

When cycling is everyday transport, the weather has little influence. People ride in the snow, and they ride on a mild, sunny April morning.

  1. Great respect to the few clever minds wearing helmets!
Nearly 500 cyclists who die in Germany each year are killed by head injuries and were not wearing helmets. This means that if they had worn helmets, there would be almost no fatalities in bicycle accidents!
In addition, almost everyone here wears a bicycle helmet, otherwise the figures would look very different.

  2. I'm really excited to see the Cathrijne singel to be cut in half. The amount of time spend waiting at that traffic light with queue's of 100's of cyclists and full busses all waiting for 5 cars would then finally be over, or at least less.

  3. Like a fancy waltz with dancers effortlessly making their way around the ballroom. No yips or yelps, no crashes or cries. Very sophisticated expertise. Excellent video ! Thanks for sharing.

  4. Impressive! The number of cyclists barely changed between a heavy snowstorm in January and a sunny April morning. This is what happens when cycling is truly everyday transport. Excellent infrastructure and strong cycling culture at its best. Thanks for the great comparison! 🇳🇱🚲

  5. Is there a predominant direction on the cycle paths here due to rush hour? It looked like most people were headed towards the camera and not nearly as many headed away from camera.

  6. The worst part of this video is, to me: all the cyclists are really "bunched" by the traffic lights, making it feel busier to cycle in this area than if the cyclists were spread around more. And those traffic lights are needed because of… Vehicle traffic, of course.

I'm hoping that they are able to get rid of the traffic lights someday.

  8. Im so glad i can just go everywhere by bike and not have to worry about gas peices, traffic or parking. Inoften forget how fortunate i am to have that

  9. Absolutely love it. It's inspirational to realise there's another way than car domination. I would much prefer to live in this calm, safe, human-oriented environment than the UK car-centric towns i have to endure 🙁 P.S. I cycle all journeys < 10 mile round trip.
