Depends what you wanna do with it I guess. Could probably fix it up yourself with some cheapish parts and have it path/light trail ready for the wife. To make it real “competent” you’re probably better off buying a whole new bike. Geometry, tech and all that.

Id throw a new chain on it and sell it for 100-200 bucks.
Itll work with minimal investment, but also I wouldnt mountain bike with it. Perfectly adequate for mixed-use paths and streets tho
