  1. This is actually a common misconception officers in the Hapsburg empire had to speak two languages and were assigned units based on what language they spoke this misconception most likely comes from how officers gave basic commands like halt or fire in German and all soldiers understood those few German words

  2. in Austria-Hungary, the country had no official languages so many people spoke different languages such as Czech, Italian, German, and Serbian i think all of those but prob

Edit: so thats why they pretty much didn't understand him

  3. This was one of the main issues Austrian-Hungary had even before the war. They had Ethnic Peoples who spoke German, Hungarian, Czech, Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, Romanian, Polish, Slovakian, Bosnian, Italian, and Ukrainian. And each of them didn’t want to be part of a "Austrian" and "Hungarian" ruled country, which is why they split into Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia the first chance they got, while others joined other countries.

  5. Gott erhalte, Gott beschütze
    Unsern Kaiser, unser Land!
    Mächtig durch des Glaubens Stütze,
Führ’ Er uns mit weiser Hand!
    Laßt uns Seiner Väter Krone
    Schirmen wider jeden Feind!
    Innig bleibt mit Habsburgs Throne
Österreichs Geschick vereint. This what the officer gotta sing
