Hoods are broken and the silicone covers are lost so taking this chance to switch to flats (my discs are cranky).
Anyone know what flat-bar short-pull shifter would be work with an old shimano ultegra SG A-52 group set?
I was thinking I could use shimano tiagra BL-4700 brake levers?
Also open to and honestly would prefer to take the front from 3x down to 1x and ditch the front derailleur to simplify

911, hello, yes I’d like to report a crime.
I think that’s a 9-speed group so 3×9 shimano MTB shifters will work. I don’t think the tiagra BL-4700 brake levers with work well since they are a v-brake compatible and will have the wrong pull ratio, unless it’s adjustable somehow. Try and find a canti brake compatible lever.
I’d just leave it as a 3x myself.
Hood replacement would surely be easier and cheaper though.

you can use different ones so long as you abide by these ruels:
Short pull brake levers built for cantilever brakes or road caliper brake
Road pull left hand shifter, this will work much better than MTB shifter since it has the right pull ratio and also has trim built in to help with cross chaining.
Right hand shifter can be road or MTB, pull ratio is the same.
Otherwise just buy hoods 😉
