Greetings YouTube! Hit that subscribe button and join me as I leave La Rochelle and ride across Brittany to St. Malo before catching the overnight ferry home. The mission statement for this tour was to seek out some winter sunshine, and I can only conclude it was a complete success. Yes, there were times when the heavens opened up on me (thankyou France, as ever) but generally the skies have been blue and the sun has been shining.

The next tour is just around the corner, and it’s going to be something completely different… watch this space!

  1. We call those bitumen strips “tar snakes” in Canada. Not good for bikers but while I used to be frightened of them a few years back I am less fearful of them now. Small slips give you a start but have never put me down (yet). Love your videos

  2. Great trip Steve. St Malo is my local pathway into the EU. I must book my GSA on the ferry and take it to Rennes for a service (cheaper in France 😉). Looking forward to your next venture

  3. Good tour Steve. Glad you didn’t drop the bike. I did exactly what you did a few years ago with my Virago 1100. The weight was very low down and somehow managed to get it upright without it hitting the deck. Thought those things only happened to me.

  4. Great video Steve, enjoyed that. Quick question, do you leave your carpuride attached on a night? I appreciate you put the cover over so I’m assuming it’s safe enough. Cheers John.

  5. Can't be too careful with security. a friend of mine had his bike stolen from a bike meet.
I'll be looking for road tyres for my "adventure" bike when these wear down. The inverted commas around adventure because the nearest to off road it'll ever do is on to a forecourt to fuel up. 😉

  6. You must have read my mind about the snakes in the road , I find in the wet they are lethal , first encountered them in Germany where they literally covered the roads in the Black Forest , it was pouring with rain and having to deal with them 2 up on a blackbird was hard work and pretty tense

  7. Great tour Steve think that’s a problem with most big adv bike hard to pick up and move around not sure most of us need more than a 900 my rally pro had done 32,000 mile and done several tour around Europe and. It’s easy to pick up looking forward to
    The next vid Steve 👍

  8. Well , Steve, you certainly can't complain about the weather. It has been sunshine nearly all the way. It's amazing the strength you find when your bike is going down, glad you saved it. I wonder where you're taking me next??

  9. Great series Steve, mission accomplished plenty of winter sunshine ☀️, natural instinct is to always save the bike but not any more, if she’s going over, she’s going over I just get out the way these days….
Looking forward to the next tour I wonder where your travels will take you, I’ll be watching 👍

  10. Steve, I would say you are the conesssur of quasont and pan au chocolate they must be a big favorite of yours? The series has been an absolute pleasure to watch and as with all your productions I love the steady pace, maybe I am getting old but it suits me fine. So looking forward to your next adventure, keep up the good work. Kind regards, Mike. 👍😎

  11. Well done Steve, loved the tour. Was in La Rochelle on my bike only last week so seeing again was good. We did the St Malo crossing on the way out and the Le Havre crossing on the way back

  12. I came of my Honda h100 when I was 17 when I hit some of that black over banding on a repaired section of road on the inside of a corner. It’s bloody lethal.

  13. Thanks for filming the tour Steve. You look absolutely knackered at the end of this tour and possibly feeling the effect of lifting the bike earlier in the day. On to the next one 👍

  14. Boy, I must say you got really lucky with the weather. Good for you.
La Rochelle is a beautiful place. I’ve never been of course but beautiful architecture and fabulous little cafés. Glad you had a great breakfast. Thanks for sharing man always looking forward to the next video.

  15. Steve you never fail to keep me enthralled in your escapade's, so safe journey home have a good rest, recoup & here's to the next expedition. Cheers buddy.🏍

  16. Thanks for taking us along Steve,I really enjoyed this series which has given me some new ideas for my tour.Really appreciate your work in recording and editing etc.The weather Gods were certainly on your side in the Picos from what I've read for that time of year .Safe Riding Richard Brizzle

  17. Enjoyed this particular video very much Steve as I am familiar with La Rochelle and St Malo, both of which I regularly visit annually. La Rochelle Market which you showed in this video is excellent, in-keeping with the standards one sees in French Markets country wide. Thank you for a great series of videos put together for this tour. You have set yourself a high standard all round. Well done 👏👏👏 and a safe ride back home to Blighty. P.S Not too much personal injury damage I hope following the bike side stand incident. Perhaps some end of tour tiredness / lack of concentration creeping in – happens to us all take from me. 👌👌👍

  18. Cracking tour again Steve. As I sit here recovering from recent rotator cuff surgery praying I will be fit enough for 10 days in July doing the Stelvio with a few friends 🐾🐾

  19. Great tour Steve, really enjoyed it. You’ll love an extended time in Picos, it’s superb.
I’m sure we’ve all had the bike wobble or drop moments. I’ve pinned myself between my bike and the garage wall and had to shout for my wife to come and pull the bike off me.
I’ve also a GSA 1250 , may I ask what cover you have, noticed it shows the reg plate which is useful.
    Looking forward to next one.

  20. Hi Steve,
Another good tour and great videos, keep them coming.
Regarding the scrambler…….go for it !
You should always ride what you like/want not what you think you should ie a big tourer. With the luggage options available now you will always be able to make it work.
I'm 66 been riding for 6 years,i did 14,000 miles last year round Europe and having just retired I'm hoping to do more this year.
My touring bike of choice, its small and light………2024 Honda fireblade, love it.
    Ride safe everyone.

  21. Re; Side stand, I get it. My bike has been up on paddock stands in the garage all winter, the first time I rode it out into the drive I tried to get off it without the side stand down. Result, total embarrassment !!

  22. Love you for your honesty and openness about your clumsiness. What you are is me. What I am is you. One of the many reasons you are one of my favorite tube travelers. Keep up the good work!

  23. 4.42 the black stripe your tyres skid on…."tar snakes" i heard a German call them once. A roundabout near Cambridge has been redone and has them and its the same for me on Mich Road 6 on a 1300GS mate. They are awful things the tar snakes
