Damn what a shame. That whole thing is a package imo. I would start a search on eBay and never stop looking for that same fork. The Enve dropout carbon forks are pretty reasonable these days. I guess no one is buying. Might be kind of a cool old/new carbon look. New headset and stem then too. Keep all the old parts.

Thanks for posting such a cool old bike. Replace that rear cassette 🤮

If this were me, I would replace the fork with another quill type and look to get someone to match the “fade” paint of the old one. It’s going to depends upon whether you are committed to vintage, or modernizing, as you described.

  3. A threadless conversion is kind of a difficult and pointless endeavor for 1 inch steerer tube bikes, mostly because 1 inch threadless isn’t very common. You would be better to find a comparable threaded fork as a replacement. For fitting a modern handlebar, you can use a quill stem with a clamp area of 31.8; Nitto (check Crust and Merry Sales), Velo Orange make different options.

Keep it threaded, there aren’t many threadless 1″ forks around.. watch for Bassi or Crust to have stock, maybe, otherwise you are likely looking for new old stock or getting something custom made.

There aren’t many but you can get a quill stem with a wider clamp diameter for 31.8mm bars, although 26mm bars with a more modern profile exist as well

I’ll bite and ask the likely stupid question. Is that actually a fork crack, or is that just the separation gap between the pressed on bottom race of the bearings and the fork itself?

beyond that I’ve dealt with a few threadless 1″ setups. You’re going to end up getting a bunch of spacers so you can use a 28.6 stem and spacers. There’s threadless 1″ carbon forks on aliexpress for ~100$. Just have to make sure to get the long skinny black expander bungs because when retracted all the way they fit inside the tube, normal ones don’t. If possible just keep it threaded, your life will be far easier.

  6. I’d get a Wound Up fork and throw the Campy group on. Maybe get the fork painted to match.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Y’all been very helpful. It sounds like I’ll keep it threaded… I’ll keep a lookout for one of those larger clamp quill stems (more recs appreciated) and of course a new fork. If you didn’t see on the last slide it’s the crack on the left hand side beneath the headset cups. New post soon with diagnosing my campy 10 before I strip it off another bike and throw on here lol.
