Coming from a Commencal meta HT, and renting at bike parks, I would like to get a new bike this season and see some deals.

Love jumps, berms, and anyway to get air, really, so something playful is a must. Would like it to still handle at speeds and some chunk, but that is the main goal.

Would be riding at trestle, and Virginia Canyon/similar trails to this in Colorado.

Or is this gonna be overkill? Other DH bikes I have been checking out are a Kona Process (new), YT Jeffsy (used), Ripmo AF (used), as well. Maybe even a commencal clash too

Also, would love a transition patrol, but a bit out of budget, which is 2500 max.

I could care less about winning XC races with fast climbs, as long as it gets me there.

  1. I’d go Ibis over the Status if you’re going to have to earn your turns. Don’t think anything has changed but status was rereleased as a park bike

  2. I have one and I think you’d be fine with it. Like you said, as long as you’re not racing to the top you’ll be fine. It’s definitely a little sluggish but it’s honestly not a bad climber for what it is. And it’s hard to beat it for the price

  3. I wish they had more accurate weights listed for all bikes, something that Specialized is usually nice about as long as you trust their numbers. Their numbers almost always align with reviewers doing their own weighing so… It’s gonna be at least ball park.

But the Ripmo AF is supposed to be pretty chunky, it just makes up for it in a really great kinematic that hides the weight. But on trails where that matters less, weight is weight.

Probly wouldn’t get a clash. If it was a higher end carbon Jeffsy, that could be compelling.

Kona Process are supposed to be light-ish, but kinda depends on the model. If its the super budget low end one, probly not that light.

While the Status doesn’t scream front range bike, it is light. And I’m not sure how much lighter you can get for 2500 or less. The Polygons are kinda nice but still chunky.
