Bulgaria has finally broken its cycle of endless elections – but at what cost? Rumen Radev’s decisive victory brings stability after years of political chaos, while raising new questions about the country’s direction inside the EU. Is Sofia becoming Europe’s next pro-Russian outlier, or just another pragmatic player navigating between Brussels and Moscow? In this episode, our host, Benjamin Lee, together with Spasimir Domaradzki, a political scientist at the University of Warsaw’s Institute of Central Europe, breaks down what Radev’s victory means for corruption, governance, and Europe’s fragile unity. Because while Bulgaria may be small, right now, its choices carry weight far beyond its borders.

Time for us to say goodbye EU.
Is Radev Tito II?
It’s sad to hear analyses of what’s happening in Bulgaria from people who have no idea about the situation. Many people voted for Radev as a form of protest against Bulgaria’s vassal status vis-à-vis the Euro-aristocracy, the forced imposition of the euro despite surveys showing that over half the population does not support such a move at this time, and the fact that it will lead to high inflation and economic problems. It is already becoming clear that the ruling elite has been concealing and falsifying data on the country’s economic condition.
