Now on our 36th day of cycling, our ride continues from the German city of Passau on the Danube to Salzburg, Austria. We have now left the Danube behind to follow the River Inn and then the Salzach River to arrive at the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for many scenes from the Sound of Music.
The ride follows the Tauern Radweg (also part of the Inn Radweg) which is part of the EuroVelo 7 route. It’s not that easy to find detailed route information on this path, but Alltrails does list the route
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/austria/salzburg/tauernradweg-salzburg-nach-passau
The official EuroVelo website is another handy resource of course, and for those using GPS navigation, it provides gpx files for the various routes. https://en.eurovelo.com/#routes-and-countries
and https://en.eurovelo.com/ev7/austria
For navigation, we did not use any high-tech GPS systems, relying instead on route signage, and sometimes the Maps.Me phone app.
We did not have local phone sim cards so our use of Google maps and other online resources was limited to when we had wifi access at campgrounds, grocery shops and restaurants.

Wow, you get to see so much more on a bike. However, I can't tolerate a 24°C ride on my bike without peeling off my shirt. Good on you both that you can endure that 34°C heat.
Excellent episode, thank you again for sharing the journey,
We will patiently for Episode 8,
My kids are just aged enough to start biking longer distances , so i will start this summer holiday with a 800 km tour along the Mosel to Koblenz from France,
Another brilliant episode. Enjoyed it very much👍
Thank you again for the video. Looking at it, I see the reason why I love cycling (speed, holiday and everyday use). On a bike you' re lesse a tourist, you are really discovering. I am not the man for a " mancave", but my shed is a kind of " bikecave" (my wife and I got six bikes) . One question. Is the new matrass a good one??? Have a nice day!!!
We enjoy your adventures
Great job again on episode 7. I enjoy watching and learning. I hope all your episodes are posted before I start my trip in August. Keep up the good work. Thanks again for sharing. Mike C , Stoughton, Wisconsin
i enjoyed the serie a lot up to here…….thanks for sharing all that……..good thing you did not wait for the idiot to order you new cranck barings, the sound you thought to come from there, was probably the first sign of your paddle giving up 🙄
Daphne, that has been a lovely series of videos and it's not over yet.
I've subscribed to catch future episodes.
I don't know that part of Europe but it certainly looks lovely.
I'm 80 now so don't tour so living your experience is wonderful.
I've lived in France for 20 years and cycle everyday but the heat last year was a challenge. We got caught in it on a three day trip, part by bike and managing the last 20 miles from the station to home in 40° was tough. I've never before felt as hot as this.
Thanks for taking the trouble to film and edit these videos and for sharing.
Also to Frank for appearing in so many action shots.😀
You have a very soothing accent and I get hints of Ireland in it. Thanks once again.
thank you so far! I look forward to your last episode. we are keen long distance cyclists as well. the next part of you trip is on my wishlist. best wishes from Amsterdam.
Curious as to how you packed your bikes back up for your return flight. I'm assuming you obtained a cardboard box from a local bike shop or shipping company at the end of your journey.
Would be very interested to know the camera setup and mounts that you were using, very stable video 🙂
Ahhhh, Hotel Alt Oberndorf. In 2019,' after a brutal 40 deg C day of biking from the south, we were served schnitzel with a truly amazing cucumber-potato salad that I still rave about 5+ years later. Not always on their menu, but not to be missed if available.
Another fabulous video. Great to see the mighty River Inn. We visited the village of Pfunds in the Tyrol several times during our summer holidays from the UK. The River Inn runs through the village and was a lovely turquoise colour. Cheers. 🍻
Its verry inspiering to follow your tours. Just recognized, my wife and I had lunch in the same restaurant in Burghausen a few years ago. On a daytrip Simbach-Burghausen-Braunau-Simbach in 2022. Regards from western Germany, Joachim
