Tomorrow I’m looking at a 2024 Santa Cruz Hightower V3 CC XO AXS with aluminum reserve wheels. Color is gloss ocean blue. Barely ridden and looks to be in great shape from pics. I’ve agreed to purchase the bike for $5000 usd pending me going to look at. Can’t help but feel uneasy paying this much although I guess it is reasonable? Idk I guess I’m just wanting to get your thoughts on how things look and if I’m making a mistake?
For reference my previous buy was a 2017 Rockhopper Pro new that I’ve rode the wheels off in the last 8 years. I’ve wanted a Santa Cruz for a while now and it has been a goal for me. Am I right to feel the price is high? Retail in 2024 was $8000 but updated retail price is listed as $5600 on the Santa Cruz website.

You are correct, you can buy this bike new for that price or even cheaper in europe, from brand new older stock. Paying that price for a used bike, no matter how little it was used, seems high. If it were me, I’d pass.
I personally think $5k is way way too high for a two year old bike with stock wheels, $3500 at most, you can find 2 year old bikes with identical specs for $3k or less all day long.
You could easily get a similar build brand new for the price from many brands, even SC
I mean the equivalent of the 25/26 new is like over 8k. I have the Hightower V4 90 which is middle of the pack and love it. Mike Bikes has a lot of past season Santa Cruz bikes at great prices. I’d look around at some retailers. The V3 is also super popular. A lot of riders like it more than the V4
$5k is a fool’s price. You can get a brand new one for $5600. Why tf would you buy used.
$3k is high for that bike. You need to find comps, just like with anything else. heres a pinkbike one for $2900. https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/4169445/
I’m pretty sure my shop is selling one of those brand new, if not slightly different. For that 3500-4~ mark… if you’re not too far or love a trip I could check for you?
I would not buy second hand for that price, you also won’t have lifetime warranty as first owner. Maybe 5k is reasonable if it had carbon wheels but otherwise I would say around 3.5k
