Perched on a massive hill in northern France, this medieval city is packed with history, from ancient city walls and cobblestone streets to an 800-year-old cathedral that’s absolutely stunning. Walking through Laon felt like stepping back in time. I climbed endless staircases (which nearly killed me), explored remnants of World War I and II, and stood in spots once occupied by kings, bishops, and soldiers. It’s not as touristy as other places in France, which made the experience even more authentic. If you’re planning a trip to France and looking for historic cities, hidden gems, or incredible architecture, Laon is worth every step. In this video, I take you through the best things to see in Laon, share a bit of its rich history, and show you why this underrated French city should be on your itinerary.

Laon is pronounced [lɑ̃], like in “lent” in french, the french nasal sound “an”.
The “o” is not pronounced.
Birthplace from the mother of Charlemagne. 🤗
