Ok, I feel like I am losing my mind.

After ages trying to find a rack and bag that might fit my Claud Butler Wrath 2, I finally got one from Halfords.

(Which says it's good for mountain bikes)

Ignoring a size issue with the bag, how the heck are you meant to fit the bag into the rack and have the seat in the right position?

I have wasted so much time on this now and just can't work out a solution. Any help would be amazing.

Or recommendation for a rack that will fit. I couldn't find anything that seemed to offer the ability to have panniers rather than a top bag, unless I am being particularly dense….

Help, please!

EDIT I was part way through taking it all off before taking the pic. With the stays attached, the platform was just off parallel to the ground and there was a good couple of inches between the locking bit of the bag and where it needs to lock onto….

Buy longer upper stays or buy a collar to mount the stays higher, on your seat post.

  2. Not sure of a proper solution, but I would find some longer metal attachments (between the seat post and the rack) to get the rack in a more horizontal position, that way your bag should fit.

Get longer arms for the rack, and tilt it back so the platform is level. Tilt your saddle forward. The bag might be directional, as well.

Can we have a photo showing more of the back of the bike. That rack really doesn’t look like it fits the frame. Longer stays at the front would help get the top of the rack horizontal, if Topeak sell them (try SJS).

I’m very confused with the positioning of your saddle here. And the rack.

Neither is level? Something is wrong here. The rack shouldn’t be tilted towards the front like that.

  6. There is so much wrong here. Neither the rack nor the saddle is parallel to the road, and rack itself isn’t attached to the frame?

It’s probably time to find a bike shop and ask for their assistance.

  7. You got the wrong rack for the style of bike. That is a commuter rack. You have an MTB where the seatpost is at a significantly different angle. Return and acquire a rack meant for the geometry of your conveyance.

  8. Fender that you can mouth a rear rack to. Maybe not that rear rack you got on your bike though

  9. I have the same rack. I fabricated longer stays / arms / brackets to make the rack level. I think you can also buy them on line.

I am very happy with the rack. The “Quick Track” lets me slide my trunk bag with panniers on and off very easily. The rack is very strong and stable, and yet, it weighs almost nothing.

What do you mean you “couldn’t find anything that offered the ability to have panniers instead of a top bag”? That rack should work with most panniers, most racks should…
