Hello everyone, I want to upgrade to a gravel bike but I don’t know what size I should get for it to suit me well. I’m 5,11 and I’ve recently ran in to a nice bike for sale but in size medium. I’ve added a description of the bike below from marketplace:

2022 Poseidon Dropbar X Olive (MEDIUM) gravel bike purchased brand new in March of 2024. This bike has been upgraded and rides smooth on pavement and gravel. Just had a fresh tune-up, so it’s ready to ride with no issues. Bike is in great condition.

Upgrades include:

• Specialized Pathfinder 700×38 gravel tires

• Shimano Ultegra CS-6700 cassette (11–28T)

• Deckas 44T aluminum crank

Everything works as it should. Shifts clean, brakes strong, and it’s been well maintained. Bike will come with stock seat and pedals. Will also include the original crank Prowheel Charm 170mm Crankset with 38t and original cassette 11-48 10-speed Microshift Advent X.

Perfect for commuting, gravel rides, or fitness riding.

Price: $600 or (OBO)

strange thing. Besides the tires, the upgrades were downgrades.
The 2026 Poseidon is a better bike for not much more.

  2. 1. That bike is too small for you. With poseidon’s sizes you want a Larger, or maybe even an XL. Check out their sizing guide on their website.
    2. The newer generation retails new for $1000, regularly goes on sale or has coupons making it cheaper, and can be bought on closeout for $550.
    3. Those “upgrades” are downgrades. The larger chainring and narrower cassette are bad for gravel biking. It includes the original lower gearing which I would recommend reinstalling. The steer tube extension is silly.

  3. Please don’t buy this bike, that’s god awful! Lots of good comments highlighting why to avoid it

  4. The question no one is asking: are you 75 years old? If so, this is the bike for you!

I have a Poseidon Redwood as my gravel bike and definitely think Poseidon has a good frame for the price rec but brand new with deals isn’t all that much more than this one. You wouldn’t be saving that much going with this used bike and as others said is mostly a downgrade so I’d pass.

  6. Chiming in to echo the previous comments. Frame is too small and that extended steerer is a disaster that should not exist on any bike that fits you unless you have zero ability to bend at the waist.

  7. Weird, I ride a 2021 Poseidon X pretty hard and the bike has held up very well for several thousand miles so far. The modifications on this bike are strange and I see no practical reason why to do them for actual gravel riding.

I’m 5’11 and ride a Large, and it fits great. A medium will be too small for you.

As others have said $600 is too much. Given that the mods are dumb and should be removed, I’d say no more than $325, then you take off these mods, keeping the tires, and toss them in the garbage. Then buy the Microshift Sword drivetrain and a brake upgrade.

Then you’ll have a sweet bike, however, it’s still too small for you.
