Hello guys,

I've recently installed Ritchey ventruremax v2 on my gravel bike. I wanted to try flat top section and more flare (coming from oem Bontrager bars on my checkpoint). Well, it turned out that I don't like bigger flare at all-feels like I'm doing push ups, maybe I need to try it will shorter stem.

Top flat section is fine, maybe better than traditional round shape, but my biggest miss of that handlebar is the ergo bump in the drops. I find it extremely uncomfortable to use that bar in the drops, as I like to shove my hands quite deep, to have good control of brakes, and that shallow drop combined ergo bend pushes quite aggressively into my wrist.

Anyone had similar experience with these bars? Maybe some angle adjustment or any other tips ?

  1. I can’t see the appeal on larger bars unless you’re doing technical trails. In general any bike fitter would suggest you to go as wide as your shoulder. Had a 44 wide bar that caused me a lot of discomfort, moved to 40 and the difference was day and night.

I don’t mind the flare too much, again depends how often you use the drops.

Personally, I’ve never liked any of the flared bars I’ve tried and always ended up back on compact drop bars on my gravel bikes.

If the bars aren’t working well for you, why not swap them?

  3. Ergo bumps didn’t work for me neither. You can try to adjust the hood position and rotate the bar and have something more comfortable but it’ll feel uncomfortable when riding on top of the hood

I had the exact same problem as I have big palms. I ended up getting Ritchey Butano which is pretty close in shape but without the bend and a little smaller flare.

  5. I quite like them, however, only after I actually went ahead and angled them so that the bar ends are actually perpendicular to the ground. The hoods feel pretty good on a 40mm bar and the flare makes the drops pretty easy to use and keep using.

My bike came with a bar with a more traditional drop shape and less flare and it just felt completely wrong.

I just got the butano bars, I’m looking forward to setting them up.
The bump in the drops is precisely why I didn’t get the venturemax.
