🤦 Shocking CCTV shows children misusing level crossings in Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Devon.

Stopping to take selfies, loitering on the track and failing to stop, look and listen before cycling over a crossing:

  1. Important to emphasise, especially for US viewers and others unfamiliar with European railways, that train speeds here are typically high. If people are not looking out for them there may be very little time to react. As for the adult presumably in charge of the group of youngsters, his duty is to train them in safe behaviour. He is likely a teacher or qualified youth leader, which makes it especially alarming.

  2. Even if you have PTS (personal track safety), this is never allowed. This is similar to crossing a road but much more important. Remember that trains do not work in the same way that buses do.

  3. If this continues, there is sure to be a fatality at some point. People need to be more aware that they're putting their life at risk.

  4. I still don’t get on why people risk their lives when not using the crossing properly and doing stupid things. Not knowing if a train is coming at high speed. Whilst many pedestrian level crossings have closed and been replaced by footbridges. But still it’s dangerous to trespass onto the tracks.

  5. I work as a volunteer on a Heritage Railway on the Permanent Way Department and when we are out and about with a rail buggy we find people walking on the track and when we say some think to then. They say. The trains only run at weekends. NO. There's us P-Way with a rail buggy and it can't stop very quickly so if people step out on the track in front of our buggy then we will hit you. Plus there mid week weddings or fish & chips runs and so on. Some people just don't get it. We thought we just go for a walk on the railway.

  6. Thing is as well if one of them gets hit by a train, it'll end up being the drivers fault for not swerving around them! That's how stupid the mentality of things are in the UK. I've drummed road safety into my kids from an early age and being a bus driver myself, I see day in and day out kids playing chicken or just blindly walking off a kerb into the road. I consider myself very lucky that I've not been involved in a serious incident fortunately (I have colleagues at my bus company and friends who are train drivers who have) but even a near miss can really affect you mentally. Crossing safety is not a joke kiddies

  7. People are just so stupid nower days I don't understand why they misuse level crossings. I've got loads of videos of people driving under the barriers. I've had one jumping over the barriers and people running through the the lowering barriers

  8. If that last clip was a 1970's British Public Safety Film, there would be one less place setting at that family's meal. Those films worked. The few times I needed to cross a railway on a footpath. I stop before crossing look both ways twice then cross. If there is a train in the distance, I'd wait for it to pass.

  9. How the family will suddenly become victims of the railway rather than their own stupidity . It only takes a second and its too late , your passing will be marked by a splat mark where your body fluids are for ibly ejected from orifices , and the smell of dead mammal . All for behaving like a twat . I feel sorry for the driver and their family , nothing they can do .

  10. There is problems with the first two videos when yes they are taking there time to cross and should not stop on the crossing, there will be a clear horn sound from any train warning of an on coming train.

The third the lad's are clearly out to worry the driver.

The final one shows to a couple of children on there bikes, and they cross it reasonable safely and probable do twice a day and know how to cross safely, this route may well be safer than staying on the road.

When I was a kid in the 70's I had to cross a similar single track line, and as long as you could not see a train coming from either direction it was safe to cross, if there was a train coming we waited for it to pass and got a friendly wave from the driver for doing so.

These crossing as safe if you know how to use them, it's just the idiots the let the side down.

  11. Why O Why should you hide their identity. Show their faces and let it be known who it is that does these things. It's not as if you are posting their name and address.

  12. In this day and age of greed for the rich train companies closing down ticket offices etc , and doing away with conductors . Simply put shareholders golden pot money on implementing safety sensor’s on these types of crossing’s which is possible in this day and age.

  13. Personally I feel it's wrong to blur out there faces. Let everyone see who the local morons are…. and then serious fines from the police would be nice. Imagine being that driver and hits someone…… scared for life!!! Maybe let the morons play on a 4 lane busy motorway instead if they wanna play chicken with a train.
